More About Me

I’m Casey Rae, a spiritual caregiver, educator, and author rooted in Vajrayana Buddhism and Tibetan medicine. My work is guided by the teachings of Lama Justin von Bujdoss, Dr. Nida Chenagtsang, and others who have helped me integrate practices like Dzogchen, chöd, and the Yuthok Nyingthig lineage into my life and work. My spiritual caregiving focuses on creating healing relationships, whether through pastoral presence, counseling, or direct support for incarcerated individuals via programs like the Buddhist Prison Ministry and Bodhicitta Behind Bars.

My personal journey, shaped by experiences with complex PTSD, high sensitivity, neurodivergence, and depression, informs the compassionate care I provide. These challenges have given me a deep well of empathy and an unwavering commitment to supporting others on their paths toward balance and authentic being.

Professionally, I’ve held influential roles in the music industry, including Director of Music Licensing for SiriusXM and CEO of the Future of Music Coalition. In these positions, I navigated the complexities of music rights, technology, and policy, testifying before Congress and contributing to Supreme Court briefs. I’ve also shared my expertise as a faculty member at Berklee College of Music and Georgetown University, creating and teaching courses on intellectual property and the music business.

As an author, my work explores the intersections of art, culture, and spirituality. William S. Burroughs and the Cult of Rock and Roll garnered critical acclaim and has been translated into eight languages, while the upcoming Dead Dharma: The Grateful Dead and the American Pursuit of Transcendence delves into the spiritual dimensions of counterculture.

Today, my life centers on being a father and husband, dharmic practice, pastoral care, and fostering connections that support healing and self-discovery. Whether through writing, teaching, or caregiving, my aim is to help others cultivate compassion, creativity, and authenticity in their own lives.
